Thats right Nascar fans. How is everyone doing? Hope you are all having a fantastic week following a fantastic weekend of racing at Lowe’s. Congratulations to the Stewart-Haas Racing guys and congratulations to Tony Stewart on his first victory as an owner and a driver. Way to go Tony.
Well as you know, this weekend they will be racing at Lowe’s once again. This weekend is full of racing fun and more. Friday afternoon they are having a barbecue on the track with Tyler somebody from the Food Network. I don’t watch much food television, but I hear he is going to be there along with several of Nascar’s best and brightest drivers to handle the gigantic cookout for fans. Hot dog and hamburgers are on the menu along with sodas to wash it all down.
The fun starts at 11pm at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and runs until 2pm. If you are going to be in the area this weekend, stop on by. You might run into us there. That’s right Nascar fans. It’s my last out of state trip for the summer and maybe for the year. I haven’t made any plans to go to any fall races but hey, never say never. At least not when it comes to going to the races. I never turn down the opportunity to go to a race and have a great time! I can tell you in my opinion there is nothing better than getting together with family or just friends and attending a weekend event for Nascar at any track across the country. You will be sure to find many more friends you never even knew you had. In fact, it is just like one big family. I doubt you will find that kind of kinship in other sports. Usually they are trying to beat each other up over their favorite teams. Dont get me wrong, there are bad seeds at any event and drunk people who cant handle themselves, but overall, I would say it is one of the best groups of people I have ever had the pleasure of sharing a space with. Going to races has been and probably always will be one of the highlights of my life.
Well in the news this week in Nascar my man Jeff Gordon underwent a back procedure this week in hopes of alleviating a troubling back problem that has gotten progressively worse over the years. The procedure involved having lidocaine injected into the back or possibly some anti-inflammatory medication. The procedure should alleviate most or all of Jeff’s chronic back pain that has plagued him over the last few years. Gordon revealed that the results of an MRI performed on the Nascar legend revealed that he had some slight arthritis in his back along with some other problems which may or may not be related to trauma, a crash, or a cumulative effect from abuse over the course of several years. At any rate, I wish him a speedy recovery and lots and lots of good luck this weekend.
Well it seems there is still a lot of controversy brewing in the case against Jeremy Mayfield and his suspension for a positive drug test. The doctor in charge of the testing and suspension ruling and reinstatement procedures for Nascar, Dr. Black, said that Jeremy had been informed of the specific drug that he tested positive for. Mayfield denied that and said that it had never been mentioned to him. Jeremy continues to assert his claim that a prescription drug that he has yet to name, interacted with some over the counter Claritin D allergy medication. Dr. Black said that the test was neither positive for Claritin or a prescription drug and that he informed Jeremy of that fact before he was suspended. Dr. Black also said that it was not a performance enhancement drug which leaves only illicit drug use or recreational drugs as the suspect. Jeremy denies having taken any illegal drugs. I don’t know about you but my opinion is this, you have a great job making a lot of money, you have adoring fans that love you and the sport, I mean what more do you want? Is it not enough for you to have all these amazing gifts and yet some would choose to throw it all away over what? A joint perhaps or maybe some pills or something worse. I say to you only this, there are a lot of people young and old who look up to you, is this really the example you want to set for your fans and friends alike? I hope not. I pray that they prove there is nothing more than some sort of reaction to medication. If it is true, I hope he gets the help he needs. Jeremy you seem like a good guy. Hopefully we will see you back racing again. Good luck to you.
Well let’s hope that this weekend some drivers put to use what they learned last weekend in the All Star event. Joey Logano who started back in the pack but ended up 8th should take advantage of those extra laps and put the knowledge to use this weekend for the big race on Sunday. Joey says he makes notes about what he has done in a race and reads it before he comes back to the track to race again. Hopefully with the short interval he can really put that information to use. Denny Hamlin ended up 4th and was able to make some strides on the track and feel out the groove that best fit his car. Hamlin says he gave him a great deal of confidence and he feels he has made some strides in his abliity to handle tracks like Lowe’s. Kurt Busch’s team also took away some information from the weekend that they hope to put to use this weekend in the race as well.
Well as they stand right now before the race sunday night, the top ten places are :
Jeff Gordon 1601 points leader
Tony Stewart 1572 points -29
Kurt Busch 1546 points -55
Jimmy Johnson 1465 points -136
Denny Hamlin 1445 points -156
Jeff Burton 1384 points -217
Kyle Busch 1380 points -221
Ryan Newman 1363 points -238
Greg Biffle 1345 points -256
Matt Kenseth 1326 points -275
Mark Martin 1316 points -285
I added Mark on there anyways even though he is eleventh. I don’t care, Mark is the man and I am so pleased he is having a great year. Go Mark, you really are the man!
Well that’s about it for now. I will be back tomorrow with a brief look at any other news before I head out for the road. Lowe’s here I come. Well take care Nascar fans.
