Every time this season that Mark Martin has won a race this season, which has been four now, the haters seem to come out of the woodworks. Now, in a way I can kind of see their point. However, I don’t take kindly when they liken him to NFL quarterback Brett Favre. Technically, Mark never claimed he was going to retire from NASCAR or from racing.
If these people would look at the bigger picture and examine Martin’s reasons for leaving DEI, they would realize he never wanted to leave. However, like any good parent, he decided that leaving NASCAR was a sacrifice he would have to make. He wanted to be there to help his son, Matty, to make it in the racing world and to figure out if this was what he really wanted. His son decided that he didn’t want to pursue racing. Mark decided this was his opportunity to return to the sport that he loved.
Those of you who think he shouldn’t have come back, that Hendrick should not have hired him, or that he needs to retire already, who do you think you are? If you’re sick of Mark, you don’t have to watch the races! You don’t have to read the articles.
While Martin may not have had the consistency that he’s needed, he’s done what he came to HMS to do: win races. As a matter of fact he not only leads his teammates 4 time champ Jeff Gordon and consecutive 3 time champ Jimmie Johnson in total wins this season, he leads all active drivers in wins. Isn’t this what we need? Isn’t this what NASCAR needed? This is a true comeback story! And yet all I hear is complaining. Mark is too old, too washed up, not a good enough driver.
Hello people. Look at him. He’s 50 years old, he works out more than any other driver save Carl Edwards. He doesn’t even eat sugar. Mark Martin is a man who keeps himself in the best shape he can so he can race the best he can for a championship organization. He is not only winning races, but dominating races.
Actually I got rather angry tonight when I saw on Twitter that someone commented “they should just give him the championship and maybe he’ll go away”. Mark won’t go away until he’s too old to climb into a car or too senile to remember how to drive one. Racing is in his blood, it is what he loves. Racing is his passion.
My personal opinion of these people are that their driver is either a terrible one or a good one having rotten luck this season. I happen to know that the Twitterer I quoted above is a Harvick fan. They are probably jealous of Mark and upset that he is doing so well.
Us Martin fans have been waiting years for this. We believed he was good enough and knew that his day would come. We sat anxiously during the 2007 Daytona 500 hoping and praying that Mark would win and were greatly disappointed. We saw him come within literally thousandths of a second of a victory several times and finally, the day came when he won. I’m pretty sure every Martin fan felt that win was just for them, I know I did.
So you haters can just get over it. Mark Martin is a winner, he’s always been a winner and a class act.

This article is right on, I saw all the Mark Martin bashing on Twitter last night and I was amazed by it.
Are these jealous Dale Jr fans maybe? I just don’t get it. Most JR fans I would guess love to see Mark win. I just can’t figure it out. Sorry Loyal JR fans that didn’t participate in this.
