It is a happy day in JR Nation as Dale Earnhardt Jr won his first race at Pocono. He won the Pocono 400 taking the lead with just a handful of laps to go as Brad Keselowski was overheating due to debris on his grille. Dales previous best finish was 2nd which he has done twice. With this victory it guarantees Dale Jr will be in the chase. This is Dale Jr’s 21st time in Victory lane but his first at Pocono.

It was a strange day at Pocono as many teams were on different pit schedules and many drivers were dealing with tight race cars. Kasey Kahne has a bad crash which also took Carl Edwards out of the race. This is Earnhardt’s first multiple-win season since 2004, when he won six times.

Brad Keselowski (second) posted his fourth top-10 finish in nine races at Pocono Raceway. It is his seventh top-10 finish in 2014. Kurt Busch (third) posted his 15th top-10 finish in 26 races at Pocono Raceway. Kyle Larson (fifth) was the highest finishing rookie. Jeff Gordon leads the point standings by 16 points over Matt Kenseth. Jimmie Johnson overcame an accident with Marcos Ambrose on pit road to finish 6th.

Welcome to Pocono

June 4, 2009 By Vinny O'Hare 2 Comments

Hello Nascar fans. Hope everyone is having a great week. Lots of tests for me this week. Well I guess the testing of the Mayfield suspension in court will have to wait another week. This means that it will be another week before Jeremy COULD race again, not that he will, but at any rate, the case has been moved to federal court. All this happened the day before the court was scheduled to hear arguments against the suspension of Mayfield. Jeremy continues to assert his claim that Adderal and Claritin D interacted in his system to create the positive drug test. Well I guess we will have to wait for the court to decide. Any thoughts or comments about the case, please post a comment as I was hoping to gather enough to have a little poll of sorts. So if you got a thought, leave it.

This week the race is at Pocono Raceway. The race way first saw action in 1968 but the first Nascar race was not held here until 1974. In the beginning there were a lot of mistakes made some construction related, some business related, all bad news for the track. On the verge of bankruptcy several times, they were finally on the verge of selling the track. A call from one man changed all that. That man was none other than Bill France who would lend his support and knowledge to the struggling facility urging the Mattioli family to stick it out. Lucky for us that they decided to do just that.

In 1990 they slowly and steadily started rebuilding the track to what they knew to be what was needed after 25 years of trial and error. They replaced pit walls, made new pit stalls and added extras, they added a new garage area and much more. They have the biggest and most fan friendly paddock area with tons of picnic tables and wonderful trees and placing the fans a mere 56 feet from the cars racing by.

Pocono is a 2.5 mile tri oval of sorts. It has one of the most unique shapes of any track on the circuit. Each of the three turns is unique in that  each one is modeled after a turn at another track. There is no consistency in reference to anything that is like anything else at the track. As I said each turn is different and has a different degree of banking, along that same line each of the three straightaways are different lengths also. Some have said that the track resembles a triangle. Turn one has a 14 degree banking, turn 2 modeled after the turn at Indianapolis, has a banking of 9 degrees. Turn three resembles the turn at the Milwaukee Mile and has 6 degrees of banking in the the turn. Due to its unique shape some call it a roval.

Some of the track records held by various drivers are for one lap the record is held by Kasey Kahne who in 2004 ran a lap at 172.566 miles per hour. The race with the most caution flags was the 1990 Pocono 500. The fastest starting field average was the 2000 Pennsylvania 500 at the average speed of 170.284 miles per hour.

Well Nascar has decided to go with the double file restart starting this weekend in Pocono. From now on when a race restarts after a caution the first and second place cars will line up next to each other. Nascar says this is in response to feedback from fans and that they are listening to the fans.

Well thats about it for now fans. Dont forget though, Fox has ended its broadcasting for this season and the race will be broadcast on TNT starting this weekend so dont forget and get caught having to miss the race. That would not be good. Have a good week and I will see this weekend fans.
