Hello Nascar friends. Sorry I havent been around in the last week or so, without a race and being so sick I wasnt even able to go to school or work. It was really bad and it was also a swine flu scare too so it was even more stressful than being just sick. This is the last week of classes for this semester and I am having to study for finals so that has been time consuming as well. Anyway, without any further fan fare lets look at the race yesterday at the Brickyard.
Well our old friend Mark Martin found himself on the pole this week. I cant say enough about the fabulous season he is having. I couldnt be happier. Although I am a steadfast Gordon fan and have been for years, you cant deny the fact that Mark has had a stellar season so far. I really would like to see him ride this all the way to the championship. But either way, what a year and go Mark!!
I know that Mark only led four laps before Montoya took over the lead, but the first caution was on lap 1 of the race for Robby Gordon who spun in turn 4. Montoya continued to lead the race and on lap 58, my mojo was strong and my least favorite driver Kyle Busch hit the wall and had some serious damage to the M&M’s Toyota ending his chance of any serious contention for the race lead yesterday.
It was smooth sailing for Juan Pablo blowing through pit stops to continue leading the race and then it happened. On lap 127 Montoya is penalized for speeding upon entry and exit to pit road and that puts him down and out of the competition for the afternoon. Some say he had the best car on the track yesterday, but I dont know about that, but he was definitely quick yesterday. Then just one lap later, the 88 car of Dale Jr. blew up and he was headed for the garage and the end of his day.
Then with some 25 or so laps to go, Mark loses the lead on the restart to Jimmy Johnson who takes the lead on the outside and never looked back. Mark was on Johnson’s bumper all the way to the end but just couldnt get the momentum going to pass him as Johnson manuevered and tried not to let Mark get any draft off his bumper giving the second place finish to Hendricks also.
The top ten finishers were
Jimmy Johnson
Mark Martin
Tony Stewart
Greg Biffle
Brian Vickers
Kevin Harvick
Kasey Kahne
David Reutimann
Jeff Gordon
Matt Kenseth
Well thats quite the list of top ten drivers. Three Hendricks drivers finished in the top ten and of course its always great to Matt Kenseth finish well. He is such a nice guy. But then so is David Reutimann so really congratulations to all the drivers in the top ten. Well now that Johnson has secured back to back Brickyard wins, what will be next on his agenda this season? That remains to be seen. Whatever it is it should be interesting.
Well the points standings has changed a little but not much, lets take a look at points.
Tony Stewart 3054 leader
Jimmy Johnson 2862 -192
Jeff Gordon 2847 -207
Kurt Busch 2608 -446
Carl Edwards 2556 -498
Denny Hamlin 2518 -546
Ryan Newman 2506 -572
Kasey Kahne 2482 -572
Mark Martin 2471 -583
Juan Montoya 2461 -593
Greg Biffle 2445 -609
Matt Kenseth 2429 -625
Well thats the points rundown for this week. I’ll be back on my regular writing schedule again after this week. Sorry for any confusion, but being sick is the worst. Keep your fingers crossed for me this week. Biology final tomorrow night and Intermediate Algebra Final on Thursday. It’s gonna be a long week. Take care fans. See you back here by the weekend. Have a great week Nascar fans.
