Hello again Nascar fans. Hope everyone is staying warm tonight because it’s really cold here in Orlando, the coldest night in 7 years. All I can say is brrrrrr! Let’s check out what’s happening in Nascar this week.
Rising out of the flames like a phoenix, the Petty name will once again be part of Nascar after a brief vacation during the merger of Petty Enterprises and GEM. Richard Petty Motorsports will field at least 3 cars this coming season in the cup chase. The logo was unveiled earlier this week along with their drivers, Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, and AJ Allmendinger. Allmendinger who you remember was said to have been replacing Elliott Sadler at one point is now racing part time in the #44 car for RPM. Interesting turn of events if you ask me. Congratulations to Richard Petty, we’re glad your sticking around.
It was confirmed yesterday that EGR (Earnhardt/Ganassi Racing) will field 4 cars for the Daytona 500 this year. They also have 3 cars running full time schedules this season in the Sprint Cup Series. Despite this announcement, they are still short by a driver and 2 sponsors for the coming race. They did confirm however that the #42 will once again be piloted by Juan Pablo Montoya and sponsored by Target, #1 will continue to be sponsored by Bass Pro Shops with their driver Martin Truex Jr., and the #8 car driven by Aric Almirola. Well if they expect to run 4 cars they better get busy finding that other driver, sponsor or no if they expect to race in Daytona.
Don’t let anyone tell you Jamie McMurray isnt a stand up kind of guy. While visiting Washington D.C. for the historic events surrounding the election of our new president and his inauguration, he took the time out to visit recovering soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Jamie says that’s the least he can do for the sacrifices they make on behalf of our freedom. You can’t argue with that. Way to go Jamie.
Here is an interesting little tid bit. Of all people to sponsor a race car, Burger King has signed on sponsor Tony Stewart’s car for 2 races this season. Hmm, would you like fries with that? Haha. The 2 races the Burger King paint scheme will be used in are the July 4th race at Daytona and the September 27th race at Dover. Speaking of “Smoke”, the team at the new Stewart Haas Racing is anxious to put on a show for the fans and show us what they’ve got! I’ll be curious to see how they do and as always we wish them lots of luck.
Despite the fact that there is no firm sponsor yet and they plan to race a full season schedule, Tommy Baldwin Racing has signed Scott Riggs to drive for them full time. Scott will drive the #36 car for TBR. Riggs who you will remember has been looking for the right deal and the right circumstance to accept a deal to race for someone. I am happy to report to you that he has indeed found that ride even though he lacks a sponsor at this time. Here’s hoping they find him a sponsor real soon.
Well that’s about all for now. I’ll will be back here Sunday to report anything else going on now that we are closing in on racing again. I can hardly wait for February 7th to get here! This is an exciting time for me. I hope the season is a good one despite all the mergers and driver changes in the off season. Well have a good night.
