I think its kind of cool that they restart the points for the chase, and interestingly enough Kyle Busch after having a tremendous season thus far, finds himself 8th in the chase for the cup. I was a little surprised to see jr. in 10th. But my hat goes off to him for the much improved season he has had since he started driving for hendricks motorsports this year. I can say that I was truly pleased that I no longer had to choose between my two favorite drivers as they were now racing on the same team! It couldnt have worked out better for me this season!
Of course, my other favorite driver is jeff gordon. I gotta give it up to him last weekend. smacking the wall in the first lap of the race, going way down and then coming back strong and eventually overtaking the lead for one portion of the race!! and a top ten finish!! what a performance! I was also stoked and thrilled to find out that mark martin will also be driving for hendricks motorsports next year. Wow! I never thought i would see the day when jeff and mark and dale jr. all raced for the same team. pretty cool!
if you are much for going to the races then you will probably know that Chevrolet has been gracious enough to sponsor the chevy stage at several different tracks throughout the year hosted at every track by the one and only Riki ratchman. Well as i know him personally, he has informed me that the chevy stage will no longer be, which is too bad. Over the course of the last couple times I was at daytona for the races, he interviewed dale jr., jeff gordon, jimmy johnson, scott riggs, and practically every other chevy driver he could find and drag on stage. I think its a shame that Chevrolet has chosen not to renew their interest in this portion of the race events at various tracks. Riki has become a valued member of the nascar family of fans and friends that have come to know him over the last five years. He will truly be missed.
For another stellar race experience when you go to the races where ever you attend, make sure you check out the sprint experience! The guy who worked it this year is a friend of mine and I am pretty sure he will be coming back this coming season for more fun and shenanigans at the sprint experience fanzone. Make sure you check that out if you go to the race any time soon! Its a good time, free stuff, and they sing and occasionally hold chicken dance contests! Haha those are pretty fun as well. So make sure you stop in and say hello to john!!
Well this weekend we are at martinsville virginia. this track is fully refurbished! A 3 million dollar makeover has made this track something special to see! The biggest addition is the 83 foot high sprint vision scoreboard. This impressive piece of engineering displays highlights, running order, qualifying times, and or mixes of all of the above. New theater style seating has been added along the frontstretch where the folding chairs once were and they have doubled the size of their media center to now include 8 state of the art, 37 inch flat screen tv’s so the media can keep an eye on all of the action during the race. This track at slightly more than half a mile, is the smallest on the circuit. It also boasts the title of the track that has waved the Nascar banner longer than any other, opening in 1947, and holding its first nascar race in july of 1948 thus earning its title. Martinsville celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2007.
Well if you have any comments or anything to add, please do. I am always up for learning new information concerning my favorite pastime. I will post another blog after qualifying where we will discuss running order for the race and who does and does not do well at Martinsville and why. Have a good week Nascar fans!
