While the NASCAR driver sits and waits the most key personnel are hard at work. Sport figures not well recognized. The pit crew.

The Jack Man.. Probably the most famous Jack Man was Junior Johnson. Not only because he was a driver and NASCAR team owner but because of his one arm swing of the jack around the car from one side to the other. One time he warned a NASCAR official not to stand so close. The official became almost famous by not heeding the warning. Junior took him out with his swing.

Names of other Jack Men are hard to find. A few are Ed Watkins, Derek Keams, Mark Jacobs, Shaun Peet, Chase Rice, Kyle Roland, Bryan White, Jason Tate, Carey Wimbish, Josh Yost, Eric Wilson and the unnamed Jack Man that jumped over the 18 car when the 18 came too close in the pits.

These unsung heroes of NASCAR are a key part of the crew without which a NASCAR driver would be just sitting.

Dale, Trevor, and NASCAR

by Uncle Lee on February 18, 2012

It truly has been a long time since I’ve written about NASCAR. I’m a Twitter follower of many NASCAR fans, drivers, crew and media persona. Yesterday the Twitter activity increased five fold. Today, Saturday, February 18, 2012, Twitter activity is over the top. Bud Shootout and eleventh anniversary of Dale Earnhardt’s passing are the topics.

We (NASCAR fans) have had a long off season with only driver and team switch news. I had a hard time keeping up with the all the changes. But now that the season is starting I know I’ll be well informed.

One thing is unsure: Spider Man (Trevor Bayne), last years Daytona 500 Champion, may not race in the big one this year. He has no guaranteed spot. He’ll have to qualify or race himself into a starting position during the week.

And why hasn’t Jimmie Johnson been out there practicing? Chadsey.. You got some ‘splaining to do.
